Working with local Emergency Management officials and various recommended lists, we compiled an extensive inventory of what we felt our families would need in order to survive an emergency ordeal for at least three days. While shopping, we discovered that many of the items were difficult to find, expensive, and a lot of work to form into a compact kit. It was a time-consuming, confusing exercise, and it didn't take long to realize that most people would probably never bother to gather all the necessary supplies.
