What do you need in an emergency kit in your vehicle?
We get asked this a lot. Really, the answer is that it depends on where you are going, time of year, the expected weather, how much space you have, etc.
In all cases, you need basic safety supplies such as a good first aid kit, flashlight, and a fire extinguisher. Then, unless you have AAA and are going to be where they can reach you, you need some basic road hazard supplies such as a tire inflator, jumper cables and a tow rope. IF THERE IS ANY CHANCE YOU MAY BE STRANDED OVER-NIGHT, you need to have survival supplies.
